Wall-E,Disney's high grossing entry of 2008(released June/08),is a delightful look at our future(2805) whose protagonist just happens to be a little robotic trash compactor.On the surface it would seem to be something with only slight potential,but the magical folks at Pixar transform this seemingly mundane bot into something with feelings,something with dedication to his job and his charge(a cockroach!),endless determination and whose life we get caught up in and come to care about in short order.It is quite marvelous how it all unfolds.
The story takes place in 2805 and Earth is a deserted wasteland...waste,being the operative word.The entire population has long left earth(over a quarter of a million days ago!)and now lives on a huge spaceship;the Axiom.People,due largely to bone loss,no longer walk but fly around on hover chairs with their every whim and need catered to by a myriad of different bots.Every so many years the ship sends out probes to Earth to determine whether life has returned so THEY may return.
This is where our little rolling trash compactor by the name of Wall-E comes in.He lives in an old shipping-like container filled with many odds and ends he has collected over many years.He,along with his now non-functioning brethren,were left behind to clean up the Earth of all its' trash which forced the population to leave in the first place.He is still hard at it with a little cockroach for a companion when one of the Axioms life probes lands nearby.The ship comes and goes leaving behind a probe drone;think an egg with sleek wings!While the probe flits here and there seeking a sign of life Wall-E watches and falls in love.The probe isn't exactly discreet in its' search and is quick on the draw,disintegrating more than one object in its' way.This doesn't deter our love struck Wall-E however.When the probe(called Eve) finds life it shuts down,sends out an automatic beacon and is later picked up by the mother craft.Wall-E follows his lady love into space and back to the Axiom.
At the Axiom Eve delivers her precious cargo to the Captain but there is a conspiracy afoot.It seems an old message from the president relaying a message about Earth at one point being uninhabitable has been interpreted by the bots,who literally control just about every aspect of life aboard the ship now,as a directive to NEVER return.So they try and destroy the evidence.Between a love struck Wall-E trying to help his lady love and a now newly invigorated ships Captain who realizes they must go back,they eventually quash the robotic uprising and put the Axiom on a heading for Earth.
The story runs on many levels with its' obvious love story,its good against evil plot and a clear environmental message of how we must protect the Earth.The animation is visibly striking,rich in detail and life like;especially in scenes showing the vast wasteland that has become our planet.
Technically the film has been transferred beautifully and is in its original widescreen a/r.Extras abound in this three disc set and they include:A Digital copy,The Pixar Story,Deleted scenes,some "hilarious moments" from the movie,a look at the Buy N Large Corp,"Lots of Bots"which includes games,several making of featurettes,a close look at Wall-E's friends,two animated shorts:"Burn-E" and the theatrical short which accompanied the movie when first run,"Presto",audio commentary by the director,a tour of the universe by Wall-E and the sounds of Wall-E.It's an extra packed edition to be sure.
I do have one complaint about this three disc set however.The discs come in cardboard pull out sections;the left pull out has one disc in it(#1) and the right pull out has the other two discs,feathered over one another.When I saw this and started pulling them out to examine them I thought"Oh boy,here we go.I can see them all being scratched or scuffed".But I was pleasantly surprised to find they were fine.However taking them in and out(especially the 2nd and 3rd ones)I think will eventually cause scuffs.So for my own peace of mind I elected to put them into a separate double holding DVD snap case.This is positively awful thinking on Disney's part to be so cavalier in how they package these things.Of course it's more money for them if you have to get new ones.So beware my friends.
In conclusion this 3 DVD set of the Disney/Pixar 2008 smash Wall-E is a crowd pleaser from start to finish.The characters we see are fascinating to the nth degree and the plot moves at a good and steady pace.The animation by Pixar is top notch all the way through and is startlingly real especially in its' portrayal of Earth in the future.In this 3-disc set beware of the bad packaging that these discs are put into.If you can overcome this hurdle,sit back and relax and enjoy another wonderful adventure from the imaginative folks at Pixar studios.

Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E (voiced by Ben Burtt) is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach, but he's developed some oddly human habits and ideas. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe (Elissa Knight) to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Wall-E is a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation. Also well-worth admiring are the sweeping views from space, the creative yet disturbing vision of what strange luxuries a future space vacation might offer, and the innovative use of trash in a future cityscape. The statement above simply means that there is a lot of killing in this movie. (And an inside joke.) Most of the killing is done with guns, but once in the movie there is a gun-knife battle. They played with this. The saying "you brought a knife to a gun fight" actually doesn't play here. But I sense the director knew that saying and that's why he included the scene. But we're just getting started!!!

This movie was extremely refreshing. I haven't seen an action movie in the theaters like this in ages! It's absolutely great. Everything that is about an action movie is there, so why the he11 is there a PG-13 rating? Not enough blood you MPAA idiots!?!? If you see this movie and feel there isn't enough explosions, you're right. What makes up for the fact is that the explosions that are there are EXTREMELY FAN-@#$%ING-TASTIC OF EXPLOSIONS!!!!

All action movies need a little comedy unless it is a really grim action. And usually, a grim action does not work...it can, but it usually doesn't. This movie delivers the comedy, but recognizes that the comedy needs to be extreme melted cheese on corn or else it will be a comedy. This is action. Horror has comedy as well, but it's Dark Humor, not light humor. Even drama has comedy, but just not in the really big scenes. All movies need comedy, but in a way that doesn't make you feel your watching a comedy. This movie successes in the essay I just wrote.

This movie also plays well in the artistic style. Like a comic book, it paints the name of the city they are traveling to on the scene, as if it were drawn. For instance, you'll find "BOLIVIA" painted on a large forest of trees in an early scenes. Some of those scenes can be a little cheap, but lately, so can Comic Books. Oh, did I forget to mention this movie is based off a comic book? Yeah, it keeps that all-around yet hardcore feeling of a comic book intact. Also, many times, this movie pretends to end but then continues and tricks you. It deliberately confuses the viewer. Something you don't see much anymore because of activists. AKA Hollywood can be a coward.

The acting is above average. It fits well for the action movie type of persona. It isn't crazy like Pro-Wrestling, it isn't freaky like Horror, it's just mild voices with Bad@$$ personalities. I can't explain the acting to well. I think that the acting was made better by the script, I can see the scriptwriter going "okay, how can this be poetic justice?" Or "How can I make this funny?" Something you usually see from the actors, is actually from the scriptwriter and the actors just try there best to put that into their character.

The overall plot wasn't so big, as much as it were the plot of the scenes. Cougar makes the movie all the more awesome, without Cougar there would be no movie, it would just be *sarcasm*SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER OF THE YEAR*sarcasm* material. My favorite scene is not the climax, although that comes close; rather, it is the office scene. This scene is done extremely well.

Visuals were nothing to complain about. But I do have something to complain about, the soundtrack. The end the note on the song that goes ON AND ON AND ON AND ON! (You will figure it out once you see it.) Most of the soundtrack besides that note was okay, but it was the action that was big. People keep getting shot left and right, they even shoot two of they're main characters in the limbs. The second person was a directors smart. There's a scene where two of the main characters are pretending to lay down with no legs. Then, later, that very same person gets shot and has no legs. They even have bodies laying down in both the scenes. I'm noticing directors are coming back.

Explosions. Quality not Quantity. You wanna see the Airplane scene for sure.

There's probably more to talk about in this movie, it's so refreshing. But I can't go on. Rating? 5/5.

The movie may not have an airtight plot line, but its enthusiastic, talented actors--Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, and the underappreciated Jason Patric--and the crisp, punch-packing direction by Sylvain White more than make up for it. The Losers follows the gambits of a team of U.S. Special Forces, with appropriately comic-bookish names like Clay (Morgan), Roque (Idris Elba), Jensen (Evans), Pooch (Columbus Short), and Cougar (Óscar Jaenada). They're sent to Bolivia, where they are double-crossed and presumed dead--with a big bad evil guy, Max (Patric), hot on their trail. In the jungle, they join up with a mystery woman (Saldana, a confident, believable action hero) with her own agenda--and perhaps not the most trustworthy of intentions. The action is nonstop, with plenty of great special effects, as the team continues mostly under the radar with both its mission and trying to stay one step ahead of the shadowy Max. Morgan is terrific as a budding action star, self-deprecating in the manner of George Clooney, and a man who (almost always) gets the job done. And he'd be nowhere without his crew of sidekicks, all of whom have great chemistry and repartee, though it's Evans's Jensen who gets the best comic-relief lines. "I'm warning you, I am a lethal killing machine," Jensen intones to a mocking disbeliever. "In the words of ancient Taoist masters, 'Don't start none… Won't be none.'" Saldana brings great sex appeal to her role as the mystery ally. The comic-book nonstop action in The Losers makes it the perfect movie escape--a true winner for fans of action, humor, and a little extra kick in the pants. --A.T. Hurley

Juno (Special Edition + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] Review

I don't know what I was expecting with this one, but it turns out that it's quite good. It's not really a movie about teen pregnancy - that just forms the backdrop. It's more about Juno's journey through these nine months of her life, how she experiences things, how and what she learns, etc. It's not quite a romantic comedy, but it's definitely not a drama, and it's not something sappy. It's quirky, and overall it's positive and fun. Feel-good but also serious, a little odd, and interesting to watch. No boredom here.

Ellen Page does a good job - a cynical, slightly strange teen. Supporting parts by J.K. Simonds, Allison Janney and Jennifer Garner are very well done, good solid perfomances. Jason Bateman's role is a little less well done, but he basically plays a guy who won't grow up, which he does well.

I'd give it a good solid 8 (out of 10), and it's something I'd watch again.

I wasn't familiar with the Baker Street robbery that took place in London in the early '70s and provides the source material for this British picture. The "Bank Job" has a lot to really like, but at the top of my list was the amazing recreation of 1971 London --- from the streets of the city to the styling of the clothing and hair of the characters. This amazing attention to time and place, along with the stellar ensemble cast of petty criminals, immediately sets the tone for this movie and transports you back to the time of post-60s disillusionment.

Unlike other suspense films, "The Bank Job" doesn't have so many twists and turns that it leaves you confused and frustrated trying to piece together an elaborate jigsaw puzzle. Perhaps this is because it is based on a true story and the screenplay remains true to the real life events. I'm still surprised that these petty thieves were able to get away with such a preposterous bank heist. "The Bank Job" is an entertaining, fast paced and engaging movie that is well worth a viewing.

The Bank Job [Blu-ray] + Digital Copy Specifications

A cheerful, energetic, and completely entertaining movie, The Bank Job follows some small-time hoods who think they've lucked into a big-time opportunity when they learn a bank's security system will be temporarily suspended--little suspecting that they're being manipulated by government agents for their own ends.
